             Advice for everyone about Coronavirus (Covid-19)

During this COVID-19 outbreak, we are advising adherence to advice that has been suggested by the Government.

What is COVID-19?

A coronavirus is a type of virus. As a group, coronaviruses are common across the world. COVID-19 is a new strain of coronavirus first identified in Wuhan City, China in January 2020. The incubation period of COVID-19 is between 2 to 14 days thus if a person remains well 14 days after contact with someone with confirmed coronavirus, they have not become a case.

Signs and symptoms of COVID-19

The following symptoms may develop in the 14 days after exposure to someone who has COVID-19 infection:

  • Dry cough and/or fever, tiredness, sore throat, difficulty in breathing, some people may have aches, pains, nasal congestion and loss of smell and taste. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually.

How COVID-19 is spread

From what we know about other coronaviruses, people can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus. The virus can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth, which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales. These droplets land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth. People can also catch COVID-19 if they breathe in droplets from a person with COVID-19 who coughs out or exhales droplets. That is why it is important to stay no closer than 2 metres (6 feets) with an infected person.  It is therefore paramount to stay at home and if have to go out follow social distancing guidelines of staying 2 meters apart.








Preventing Infection

Regular cleaning of frequently touched hard surfaces and hands will therefore help to reduce the risk of infection. Because there is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19, best way to prevent infection is to avoid being exposed to the virus through:

  • Staying at home and avoiding public places
  • Self-isolate for 14 days if get any flu symptoms and call 111 if they persist.
  • Washing your hands often – with soap and water, use alcohol sanitiser that contains at least 60% alcohol if handwashing facilities are not available. Should you feel unwell should stay at home and should not attend work
  • Wash hands before leaving home, on arrival at work, after using the toilet, after breaks and sporting activities, before food preparation and eating any food including snacks, before leaving work, on arrival at home.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
  • Wear gloves, a mask, use hand sanitisers and avoid touching public surfaces.
  • Soon as get home, change into clean clothes and have the ones worn washed.


  • If worried about symptoms or those of a family member or colleague, please call NHS 111.
  • They should not go to their GP or other healthcare environment.
